Makar returned to Calgary Flames to play at the minor-midget level. In his one full season in 2014-15, Makar was the team’s most valuable player with 23 points in 34 league matches. Makar, a Calgary native who first played in the Crowchild Blackhawks’ minor-hockey program, before moving on to the NWCAA Bruins’ Bantam level play in 2011. Before moving to the NWCAA Stampeders, he played bantam for the Calgary Flames. Makar was selected to Canada’s under-20 team for the 2018 World Junior Championships in Buffalo, New York, winning gold. Makar finished the tournament leading all defenceman with three goals and eight points in seven games, and was the only Canadian named to the All-Tournament Team.
